Opening a numbered door each morning in December feels a lot better when something small is waiting to be built.

The tricky part with a lot of advent calendars is that the surprise is over in a second. Here, every numbered box holds a small build, so there is something to do after you open it. Over 24 days you put together players, a trophy, goals and a scoreboard. The 712 pieces come with a play mat, so the finished figures can go straight onto the pitch for a match.

Why is this advent calendar so popular?

• 24 days of building: Each numbered box holds a small build, so the countdown gives you something to put together every day.
• Football theme: Players, referees, goals, a trophy and a scoreboard let you set up a match scene as you go.
• Play mat included: The pitch mat measures 46 by 29 cm, so the finished figures have somewhere to play.
• Hangable figures: A cord comes with the builds, so you can hang finished figures on the tree as ornaments.
• Smooth-edged blocks: The building blocks have smooth edges, which makes them nicer to handle while you build.
