Opening a little numbered box each morning in December gives a child something to look forward to before breakfast.

The trouble with a countdown is that the days can feel very long when there's nothing to open. Here, each compartment is numbered from 1 to 24, so a child can easily see which box is next. Inside there are 37 pieces in total, including hair accessories, bracelets, rings, a comb, a tiara and a fluffy unicorn bag with a shoulder strap. There's also nail polish, stampers and washi tape, which is handy for children who like making and styling things.

Why is this advent calendar so popular?

• 24 numbered compartments: Each day has its own numbered box, so children can open one at a time up to Christmas Eve.
• 37 pieces: The 24 gifts come to 37 pieces in all, so there's plenty to find as the days go by.
• Unicorn bag: The fluffy unicorn bag has a shoulder strap, so a child can carry their new bits and bobs around.
• Dress-up and styling bits: Hair accessories, a tiara, bracelets and rings give children plenty of ways to try different looks.
• Making and styling extras: Nail polish, stampers and washi tape add something to do besides wearing the accessories.
